Unbelievable, How the Pentagon spends it's Friday's
- There is news that degrades our military and then there is news that never sees the light of day because it shows the compassion and understanding that both our active military and veterans of military service find for others. Here I'd like to share a piece that's been going on at the pinnacle of our military, the Pentagon. Some of you will sit there open mouthed that this has not been in the news...but some things are better covered up by the mainstream news. |

UPDATE: Camp Lejeune Water Study
I thought the water tasted funny...........in '85
In 1982, during periodic monitoring of drinking water at U.S. Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina (Camp Lejeune), base officials found that the drinking water supplied to some of the base's family homes may have contained substances known as volatile organic compounds or "VOCs." The VOCs were, primarily, trichloroethylene (TCE) and perchloroethylene (PCE). These chemicals are widely used, especially in industry as solvents/cleaners, dry cleaning solvent, or as degreasers.
When Camp Lejeune officials realized that these chemicals were present in the water supply, they initiated an investigation to determine their source. The investigation found both on-base and off-base sources were impacting some drinking water supply wells. Between November 1984 and February 1985, all affected water supply wells were shut off. |

USMC Combat Operational Stress Continuum and Decision Matrix
- A tough topic to discuss but Marine leadership is always on the lookout for Marines with signs of excess stress levels. The Marine Corps has put together a matrix that helps leadership and peer Marines in determining the status of a Marine in regards to his or her stress. Color coded and easy to follow, it's an outstanding guide to help with determining family members that may be home on leave and their possible poor adjustments while home. |

Why Marines Love Chuck Norris
Chuck Norris, the famed martial artist and actor, is a big favorite with the Corps. Not only is he a Honorary Marine, as declared by CMC Conway, he's all over the walls in Iraq. "Norris Facts", or tough guy sayings keep our Marines motivated when times get tough. Most of the saying are in the heads (restrooms) in Iraq, where else to better read eh? There's a sight dedicated to these little blurbs of tough guy saying and the above link takes you to some pretty humorous interpretations of Mr. Norris's supposed view of things..a good read over. A special note, Chuck Norris lived up to his tough guy image by being the only celebrity to visit our Marines when things were hot! Which may be why he's so beloved by our Marines. You may just see me toss these around the Shutt website on occasion. |
